Leire Egaña
Leire Egaña Bastida is an elite competition hunter from Elgoibar (Gipuzkoa), who has consolidated one of the brightest and most successful careers in women’s small-game hunting at national level.
Over the years, her progress in small-game hunting with dogs and woodcock hunting has led her to break historical records and to position herself at the top of hunting sport.
• Double Spanish Champion in Small Game Hunting with Dogs (2025 & 2026): She won the most coveted title in this discipline at the 12th Spanish Women’s Championship held in Argamasilla de Alba (Ciudad Real), and defended her national title incontestably at the 13th Spanish Women’s Championship. She completed the limit of the event by taking two red-legged partridges and six rabbits in a vineyard and elevated areas of the estate, accompanied by her Andalusian hound named Roky. Before these triumphs, she had already achieved two national runner-up finishes in the same modality.
• Pioneer in the Spanish Woodcock Championship (2024): She made history by becoming the first Spanish champion in woodcock hunting in the inaugural women’s edition, held in the Sonsaz hunting reserve (Madrid).
• Regional and Provincial Titles: At regional level she holds absolute dominance. One of her most memorable years was precisely the end of 2025, when she added the Basque Woodcock Championship title to her national crown. She also holds multiple provincial championships in Gipuzkoa.
Leire usually competes accompanied by her dogs. In various interviews she has said that she approaches the trials with great naturalness, basing her performance on her regular outings in the field rather than on strict athlete training. For her, success lies in a perfect reading of the terrain, the wind and total rapport with her dog.
