Arkaitz Egaña
Arkaitz Egaña Bastida is a prominent sport hunter from Elgoibar, Gipuzkoa, established as one of the most important figures in small-game hunting with dogs in Spain.
From his early days at regional level, he showed a remarkable rapport with his pointing dogs, especially with his loyal English setter “Lagun”, a partnership that led him to dominate the official competitions of the Basque Hunting Federation outright and to make a successful leap to the national championships.
The high point of his sporting career came in 2012, when he was crowned Spanish Champion in Small Game Hunting with Dogs for the first time at the national event held in Castillejo de Robledo (Soria). Far from being an isolated success, Egaña Bastida demonstrated his consistency and mastery among the elite of this discipline by retaining his national supremacy three years later, being crowned double Spanish champion in 2015.
These achievements are complemented by an extensive regional record that includes multiple titles in the Basque Country and Gipuzkoa Championships.
Beyond his individual successes, the man from Elgoibar stands out for being part of a family saga deeply linked to this sport. His sister, Leire Egaña Bastida, also competes in the women’s category of the discipline, having shared the top of the podium with Arkaitz in consecutive provincial championships. With a career marked by consistency and respect for the environment, Arkaitz Egaña remains an undisputed benchmark and an ambassador for Basque hunting sport.
